The Sun May Be Fun—but It’s No Joke ☀️

Skin Cancer Prevention Month Might Be Over, But Your Protection Shouldn’t Be

May marked Skin Cancer Prevention Month, but even though the calendar has flipped, the sun hasn’t gone anywhere—and neither should your sun protection habits!

Whether you're playing 18 holes, watching a tournament, or just out on the range, you're soaking up more rays than you think. And as much as we love a sunny golf day, it's important to stay smart about it. 🧴⛳

Why It Matters

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Canada—and about 1 in 3 new cases of cancer diagnosed each year are skin cancer. The good news? It’s also one of the most preventable types.

Here are a few sun-sational stats:

  • Up to 90% of non-melanoma skin cancers are associated with exposure to UV radiation from the sun.

  • Just one blistering sunburn in childhood or adolescence can double your risk of melanoma later in life.

  • UV rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.—a.k.a. prime tee time.

Fun (and Frightening) Facts:

  • A wide-brimmed hat can block 50% or more of UV rays from your face, neck, and ears.

  • Most people apply only 25–50% of the recommended amount of sunscreen.

  • Cloudy day? You're still at risk. Up to 80% of UV rays can pass through clouds.

Keep It Easy, Keep It Handy

We want to make sun safety second nature:

Quick Tips to Stay Sun-Safe on the Course

  • Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours (or every 9 holes!)

  • Choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher

  • Wear a hat with a brim and UV-blocking sunglasses

  • Consider UV-protective clothing—many of our best-selling golf shirts and jackets offer UPF ratings too!

Skin Cancer Prevention Month might have wrapped up, but we’re keeping the message going strong. After all, your skin’s with you for the long haul—treat it with the care it deserves.

Now go play a round—but don’t forget the SPF! 🧢🏌️♀️
